Reviews and Testimonials - What our clients say:

Sacha Hymanson Bar Mitzvah – Cirque Le Soir

I'm afraid to say you did way more than contribute to the evening! You all made the evening outstandingly special and Sacha got to be a Rock G-d for the night - what more could a Barmitzvah boy want for his celebrations.....Everyone has commented on how wonderful the music and dance steps were and we are so grateful we discovered you!
THANK YOU

Oscar Matteson - BM Coldfall School

You were all exceptional and made a wonderful party for us.  Really special! Thank you so much. Did you all eat and drink? I forgot to check that with you but you were catered for and I forgot to say... So sorry!

I just wanted you to know that pretty much everyone at our party has raved about you all, and many have asked for your details.

Maya Brookes Bat Mitzvah

That was the most fantastic Batmitzvah. The whole weekend was extraordinary. A really magical experience for us and you were sensational. What a party!

Hettie Virchis Bat Mitzvah – Feb 2015

I wanted to write and thank you and all your band for the hard work and important role you played in the success of our simchah last weekend.

Hettie, Andres, I and all our guests had the most amazing evening and that was in no small part due to you and the wonderful Shir.

We particularly appreciated Ivor and yourself for understanding our need for some creative thinking and making it happen Motzei Shabbat - it really added to the ruach to continue straight into the party at shul.

Many of our guests have been in touch about the fantastic time they had and all have mentioned you and how great you were.

As I am sure you have heard before you are definitely the best and a special thank you for helping the kids learn the dances as they are still finding their feet with this simchah dancing!

Thank you again to you and the whole band.

Hi Ivor Maurice & the Band,

Just wanted to say a big a “thank you” to you all following  last nights concert and dancing. Shir were absolutely  brilliant  and from the excellent feedback I received from everyone that attended a good time was had by all, this was no doubt one of our very best social evenings.

Thanks once again from Loughton Synagogue!

Freyde's  Bat Mitzvah - Jan 2015 The Canonbury, Islington.

Your performance - and your ruach - were an essential ingredient of our amazing party and we're really grateful. Thank you for making our evening the big success it was. We've had so many lovely comments from our guests and will be sustained by the happy memories.”

Lia Joffi Bat Mitzvah - New North London Synagogue

A slightly belated thank you for doing such an excellent job at Lia’s Bat Mitzvah. You had virtually everyone (under 80) on the dance floor and so many people have commented how much they loved the music and dancing from the reception right the way through to the disco.
Can we book you for Nina’s Bat Mitzvah now?!

Ilan and Naomi

Ps Lia was worried her friends wouldn’t dance!

We can't thank you and the team enough for your wonderful performances on Sunday; you really made the party so very special and so much fun. We know that you will be getting lots of bookings on the back of it and we hope we will be invited to those simchas!! We are going to make sure we secure you for Ben's barmitzvah in 2 years as soon as we know the date!!
We know that a lot work goes on behind the scenes to make it all work so well on the night and also want to thank you for being so accommodating to the kids performing with you - everyone had a wonderful time.
Looking forward to seeing you soon

Georgia Clarke Bat Mitzvah - Muswell Hill Synagogue
Dear Shir
Just wanted to say a massive thank you, to you and the boys, for being absolutely fantastic on Sunday. You surpassed yourselves! Everyone has said how brilliant you were, and we all agree; you kept the ceremony together and the party on a high.
Thank you so much, I am so very grateful. If you ever need testimonies or recommendations, do let me know - I can not speak more highly of you all.
Best wishes xxx

Thanks for Saturday Night - Oxford
Dear Shir,
You were awesome as always, all of you.   It made such a difference to the ambience of the party to have you orchestrate the music and know just when to play what, and how loudly!  Your backing to Daniel's havdallah was perfect, and I'm sure you'll agree that it started things out on a magical note.
Good job we are now at the end of barmitzvahs as I don't think we could produce another event that went as brilliantly as that one, especially after Ben's in 2006, which we were worried we wouldn't be able to emulate this time.
Great job, and keep coming to Oxford!
Thanks again

Shir - an outstanding and perfect band - Muswell Hill Synagogue
Having heard and seen Shir perform at a number of simchas, we were keen to book them for our daughter's bat mitzvah. They played throughout the ceremony, traditional Klezmer as well as ladino songs and more traditional songs also. They totally brought the ceremony together and held different parts of it together with their beautiful sounds. The party afterwards was sensational - with the most fantastic and energetic Israeli dancing, which continued later on with Maurice's fabulous calling for lesser known israeli dances. The warmth of the band shines through everything they do, they are complete professionals and perfectionists. We knew the simcha was in safe hands and I would thoroughly recommend Shir for any type of simcha as they are so accommodating to your individual needs.

SHIR - essential for simchas - Oxford
Shir have entertained our guests at my sons' barmitzvahs and I can't recommend them highly enough. Our guests were a diverse bunch of people and it was vital that the music gave a sense of togetherness to the occasion. This SHIR did, apparently effortlessly producing the right sound at the right moment: they didn't overpower conversation during the meal, they did guide the dancing in all its forms, Israeli, traditional, folk and klezmer, they did a background for Havdallah which was perfectly suitable to enhance it. We look forward to any event at which they are performing.
I have also had the pleasure of hearing them perform their music in concert format, and it is well worth making time for.
You will not be sorry.

Shir Magic - Wedding - Tewinbury Farm, Essex
Dear Ivor
just a quick note to thank you and Shir for playing at my daughter’s chuppah on Sunday 19th June 2011 at Tewin Bury Farm and arranging things at such short notice – your music added the magic to a wonderful day and made the chuppah very memorable – even our non-Jewish friends commented, one of which told me he was going to buy a CD from your website so you obviously made a great impression upon everybody and more importantly on the bride and groom themselves who told me that they will treasure that moment for a very long time

Klezmer and Chinese - Norrice Lea Synagogue

For the Cohen family, it was the klezmer band they hired for their daughter Jennifer’s batmitzvah celebrations which really made the day.
“Shir, who play concerts as well as weddings and barmitzvahs, are just terrific,” says Miriam, who incorporated the band into every stage of her three-part summer simcha at Norrice Lea Synagogue in Hampstead Garden Suburb.
On a summer Sunday afternoon Shir entertained 130 guests to some alfresco music with their cocktails on the forecourt of the synagogue: “It was one of the best parts of the whole event,” says Miriam. “They were a four-man band at the time, but I added a drummer and an accordionist and it worked really well."
After feasting on Chinese spoons heaped with Jasmine rice and Thai Green curry, sushi, sashimi and exotic tartlets, the 120 guests were joined in the synagogue by the band, who accompanied Jennifer in her dvar torah around the Balak parsha with their rendition of Matovu. Then, like a set of modern day pied pipers, they played the troupe of children and adults into the shul hall, where Israeli dancing started the party off.
However, Jennifer’s joyous occasion was not achieved without some early stress on the part of Miriam, who found the initial caterer she chose serially unavailable and unresponsive. “Eventually, with only 2 1/2 months to go, I chose to go with another caterer.”
Recommended to Ask Seven Wolfisz, Miriam was delighted with how readily they responded to her desire for a selection of kosher Chinese favourites. “They said their head chef was completely au fait with that style of cuisine, and he did indeed deliver a wonderful Chinese feast for all our guests”
Miriam particularly wanted dishes like sesame chicken, deep-fried seaweed, duck with pancakes and beef in black bean sauce served on Lazy Susans. “I really wanted people to talk to each other, and getting them to pass food to each other was a big part of that.” Desserts required no passing, coming to the table on plates of lemon mousse towers or individual chocolate mousse gateaux.
After dinner and some more traditional dancing, led energetically by band leader Maurice Chernick, Shir laid on a disco so the children could let their hair down: “Most of the evening was heavily geared towards Ladino, Sephardic and traditional simcha sounds which I love, but the disco was a great success with Jennifer and her friends,” says Miriam. A good time was had by all.

Wedding of Andrew Green and Baddanie Grant - Manchester
Dear Maurice and Ivor,
Thank you so much for creating the perfect atmosphere at our ceremony and then injecting so much ruach in to the dancing. It had all the emotion and simcha spirit we hoped for.  It was an unforgettable day and we are so pleased we had you on board.
Please pass our thanks on to the rest of the band, and hopefully we will get to see you all perform again soon.
All the best,

Andrew and Badannie

Wedding - East Grinstead

“The minute we saw Shir at a Jewish music festival we knew we had to have them at our wedding at any cost! Fortunately, they were free to play our date and I was one extremely happy bride. Having traditional Jewish music was so important to me, and being half Israeli there is a level of authenticity I found with Shir that was heads and shoulders above anyone else I’d heard. On the evening they were just wonderful. Not only did they go above and beyond and ask on the spot if they could play beautiful background music throughout the meal (giving it a real atmosphere) they got all of our (mostly non-Jewish) guests dancing straight away. It was absolutely incredible, the atmosphere they generated can’t really be described in words. It was a blissful few hours and at the end they said some lovely words about us as a couple and our family. Shir MADE our wedding – everyone talked about them for weeks afterwards. They were friendly and a joy to deal with throughout and we couldn’t have picked a better wedding band. Thank you, Shir!”
All the best,

Sara Gibbs - East Grinstead

West London Synagogue Concert
My husband, children and I were lucky enough to see Shir in action, last night at the West London Synagogue. A truly amazing experience and an honour to listen to your wonderful music. I have never heard a violin "sing" before, but that is exactly what Piotr achieves. I would love to be informed of any forthcoming shows.
Thank you so much

Just to say what a wonderful concert that was yesterday. Very interesting and rich musically (loved the new pieces), some really virtuoso performances – all very inspiring and uplifting. We both really enjoyed the evening.

Den Hague, Holland Concert
Dear Shir musicians,
I came to your concert in The Hague last Sunday, and brought my six-year-old son, Sammy along. My husband is a violinist, and I am a singer, so let's just say Sammy and my daughter hear a lot of music in the house!
I bought your latest CD, and Sammy has played it many times every day since your concert. He loves it. Can't get enough of it! Maybe we have a budding klezmer artist on our hands, I don't know! We already had Muzsikas' CD Maramaros, so I played that before we went to the concert, and he recognized the Chosid Wedding Dances.
I'm writing you expressly because Sammy told me to please let you know how much he loved the concert and loves the CD! I did too, by the way. I really enjoyed your energy and great music making. I'm friends with Ken Gould, so I'll make sure to tell him to bring you back!
All the best,
Nancy Mayer & Sammy Talbott - Holland

Thank you all for such a fabulous and moving evening. I'm finding it so difficult to put into words that very unique Shir spirit you generate through your music. You created such a magical atmosphere and brought a great sense of community into the hall both uplifting and touched the very essence of what it feels to be Jewish.
Everyone left the concert feeling so good and proud of their heritage which is all we can ask. Even some of those not involved with Judaism asked me how to belong!
I am listening to the CD you gave me as I write this and am absolutely loving it, so thank you for that too.
Looking forward to seeing you again at the end of March....what a bonus.
All the best,
Sally
